Learning languages -- learning anything new in general -- engages the mind. It's stimulating and offers a perspective of the different cultures.
Take, for example, Japanese. I've been studying Japanese for a while now, but I've learned so much about their culture. From my studies, I can see the importance of politeness and context in their communication.
