Video games

An overview of video games

Video games have been around for a long time now. They come in different forms now, and mostly every person in a crowd would have one or two installed in their smartphones. Aside from smartphone or mobile gaming, video games can also be in a form of a traditional home console like a Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation, Sega Dreamcast, or a Microsoft Xbox.

Video games have also thrived in handheld form. Famously, Nintendo is the most prominent in this area. They released The Game Boy, DS, and 3DS family lines. Sony also released handheld consoles with the PSP and PS Vita lines.

Needless to say, arcades are also important to the history of video games. Pac-Man, the famous yellow, gobbling circle from Namco started as an arcade video game.

The most recent Nintendo console is a hybrid one, the Nintendo Switch. In other words, it combines the good things of a traditional home console and a handheld console. When you feel like you need to stretch your legs from sitting on a couch and play your video game outside, you can simply pick up your Switch and continue your game.

In the future, we might see exciting developments in the video game industry to mature. Augmented reality is when a digital overlay is projected onto the real world. Usually, we can use augmented reality by using a camera and a screen, like how Nintendo designed their 3DS. Another evolving technology is virtual reality. The user is seemingly placed into a different world when they wear a headgear; thus, "creating" a different, virtual reality.

Why I write about video games?

For as long as I can remember, I have been enamored with video games. Mario and Sonic on the SNES and Dreamcast were my first taste of home console gaming. I immediately fell in love with the experience being unordinary from everyday, real life.

Gaming as a my hobby continued with my parents buying me a GBA. Mario Kart was a blast, and I sunk many hours in Final Fantasy games. From the generation with GBA onwards, I continued having a Nintendo console and diversified my gaming experience with other consoles and PC.

I am passionate about gaming. Video games bring a satisfying, rewarding experience, which is a part of its equation. It can be an escape from a boring reality to a colorful, bright world.

What I would write about?

In this blog, I would write my opinions and experiences with video games. Particularly, I would post reviews of current and old video games and my thoughts on video game-related news and press releases.
