Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin trial is available on the Switch now; it's interesting, colorful, beautiful, and fun

I didn't play the first Monster Hunter Stories game on the 3DS because I was too busy then -- actually, I didn't play any Monster Hunter game. I do wish I had since the second game in the Stories series is offering fun turn-based gameplay.

The trial opens with a beautiful, intriguing scene. The player, who just recently became a rider, lives at the coast of an island filled with monsters. There is a conflict between the guards and inhabitants as certain monsters disappear. The chief of the village grants the player his blessing to be part of the expedition to understand the recent events.

After the (lengthy) introduction scene, I roamed around the village, got a monstie, went to the wilderness, and fought wild monsters. The game has a rock-paper-scissors type of combat, which isn't that hard to get into. In fact, it was the simplicity of the gameplay that won me over.

I'll be honest, I stopped playing the trial when a particular cat joins the team. It had won me over. I put my controller down and said, "Show no more, trial. You win. I'll enjoy my experience with the game at its full release."

Edited on July 5, 2021. Watch the E3 video of the game on the Nintendo Switch from Nintendo’s official channel to be as excited as I am:
